To prevent big bang nucleosynthesis from burning all of the hydrogens to helium in the early universe, there had to be a parameter change to set the baryon to photon ratio. The key parameter which determines the abundance of light elements is the baryon/photon ratio. The most robust constraint on the baryonic density comes from the primordial deuterium abundance. In physical cosmology, Big Bang nucleosynthesis is the production of nuclei other than those of the lightest isotope of hydrogen (hydrogen-1, 1H, having a single proton. The entire variety of the elements and isotopes found in today’s universe was created by Big Bang nucleosynthesis, stellar nucleosynthesis, supernova nucleosynthesis, and by nucleosynthesis in exotic events such as neutron star collisions.
The proton-proton reactions that power the stars in our universe rely on weak interactions. The fine-tuned, life-permitting properties are all in place.
The particles, with the interactions among the known particles shown as lines. The non-zero Higgs field makes the known particles massive, and the Higgs field and Higgs particle have stronger interactions with the heavier particles. They associate the Planck scale with gravitational interactions. The up and down quarks are incredibly light.
Higgs and Hierarchy: The Higgs boson is an elementary particle in the Standard Model of particle physics produced by the quantum excitation of the Higgs field, one of the particle physics theory fields. The Higgs boson particle is so essential to the Standard Model because it signals the Higgs field’s existence, an invisible energy field present throughout the universe that imbues other particles with mass. Supersymmetry can explain how a tiny Higgs mass can be protected from quantum corrections. Supersymmetry removes the power-law divergences of the radiative corrections to the Higgs mass and solves the hierarchy problem.
Electrons, muons, and tauons all pick up some of their mass by the Higgs Mechanism. Most of their mass comes by way of strong interaction.
The non-zero Higgs field mixes the massless W and X force carriers and the Higgs particles, making three of the force carriers massive, leaving the fourth massless, and keeping one massive Higgs particle from the initial four. This happens in the Standard Model; the number of Higgs particles in nature may differ from shown. But the core idea — that three Higgs fields combine with the massless W’s and X to form the massive W’s and Z — is already well-established, using existing data from the past three decades. The Higgs vacuum expectation value is the same for all particles.
If the Higgs field were zero, the matter fields would be rearranged, such as the forces and force carriers. None of the known particles would be massive, though the Higgs particles (of which there would be four, at least) would be enormous.
