Consciousness involves the subjective experience of a phenomenon that can’t be measured.
Panpsychism is the doctrine or belief that everything material, however small, has an element of individual consciousness. A mind-like aspect is a fundamental and ubiquitous feature of reality.
Reality is made up of 2 things: Immaterial brain activities on the one hand and material things on the other.
Somewhere, somehow, in the brain, consciousness is at work. (actually, all five known senses.) it receives information from the eyes and the ears.
We are inclined to only comprehend things under the rubric of physical causes and effects.
The subjectivity of the mind interprets what our senses experience.
Galileo (1564-1642) thought a math language embedded in the cosmo could only be seen by separating the quantitative ( 4 data points of size, shape, location, and motion) from the qualitative. (the comprehensions of the mind.)
Quantitative data became a science, thereby creating the problem of consciousness. (Which had already been claimed by religion, anyway.)
The qualitative inquiry was left out of the scientific investigations. Science would only study the matter.
The Catholic church had already separated the study of the mind from the body at the council of Trent (1545-1563). The church would own things concerning reason, and secular studies could only be about physical matter.
Science and religion have been paying the price for these two decisions ever since.
We have been stuck with a worldview where the subject of religion and the rationality of science can’t communicate.
There is a 3rd way needed to break this dualism.
