Mineral diversity comes from chemistry. Eighty natural elements form the rock and mineral kingdom. The rest of the periodic table is synthetic.
Most elements are rare. There are ten separate eras of rock and mineral formations. Geology uses four periods: ROCK & MINERAL FORMATIONS.

SOME ROCK PROCESSES:
Rock melts and crystallizes; Hot water reacts with some rocks to form mica, & many fine grounded clay minerals. The mineral-rich ocean water evaporates to produce salt, sulfates, nutrients, & borates. 2.2 billion years ago, an excellent oxidation event occurred. The microorganisms had flourished big time; they released giant quantities of oxygen into the air. 2/3rds of the Earth’s minerals were formed by oxygen that was released. Oxygen and water altered many of the previous minerals. This provided for more life forms to evolve. Rocks are vital in forming life forms.
First, the elements evolved, and the mineral evolution followed that.
It all started with clouds of hydrogen and helium that were formed right after the big bang. Then, gravity took over, crunching the hydrogen and helium to create stars. More gravity squeezed the stars until a nuclear furnace was ignited. These furnaces then burn for billions of years (dependent on size).
Supernova explosions seeded the galaxies with star stuff so that life forms could evolve. When some stars explode (again dependent on size), the stardust eventually becomes a component of life.
4.5 billion years ago, our sun’s solar system was formed. After cooling down, our planet, the Earth, produced the elements of oxygen, silicon, iron, and magnesium. The rest of the elements were then put in place. These earth elements were the building blocks for rocks, minerals, and life forms. We were on the way.
The Earth has water, active tectonic plates, and a protective atmosphere, so living organisms. Rocks and minerals are abundant. All three have stories to tell. (ONCE THESTARDUST HAD COME BY).
Minerals are the fundamental building blocks for rocks. Our Earth contains approximately eighty elements. These eighty elements have produced around 4,700 minerals (some being synthetic & compounds). Earth sciences are in the process of determining where, when, and how life evolved. Each new evolutionary change is dependent on the last change. The procedures and protocols need to be tied down.
Our Earth has a core, a mantle, and a crust. (All things are triune, with binary interactives). The core is made up of iron & nickel. The mantle is oxygen & magnesium. The crust is silicon.
