  • Gas has more entropy than liquid. A solid has less entropy than a liquid—a reliable traps molecules in a fixed location.
  • Gas particles move very fast and randomly; their entropy is absolute.
  • The motion of molecules causes heat. When a chemical reaction is expected to happen, it should be heat-emitting or not. There are exceptions.

A random system lacks a regular arrangement of its parts. This tendency toward randomness is called entropy. Entropy is a measure of chaos or disorder. Entropy, S, can be defined in a simple qualitative way as a measure of the degree of randomness of the particles, such as molecules, in a system.
